Iyad working on piano for Palestine

Second day of Iyad's training at Pianomobil in Antwerp. Iyad has two teachers: Pol De Winter, Pianomobil's owner, is teaching Eyad techniques of repairing pianos, and Aurèle Hardy is teaching him the tuning of pianos. His teachers tell me that Iyad is a very keen, curious and precise learner and that it is for them a pleasure to have him in their workshop. Iyad has started to take apart one of the concert pianos which the Brussels University ULB has donated to Music Fund. The University had asked Pianomobil what it would take to repair these pianos, but since the work to be done on these instruments was so important and would therefore cost so much money, Pol De Winter has advised the university instead to donate them to Music Fund and engaged himself to have them repaired by volonteers and students such as Iyad and others, so that they can be donated later on to partner music schools in the Middle East or Africa. I hope other piano workshops will follow Pol's example, because this can be a way for Music Fund to get hold of instruments which have been given up. These pianos from the Université Libre de Bruxelles need serious repair, something Pianomobil engaged itself to do the coming months, in order to have them ready for the big transport Music Fund is again preparing towards the Middle East in December. Iyad will therefore during his training be working on instruments which will find their way to music schools in the region where he comes from himself. It all fits.
