back in Belgium

It is only a few days that we have been back in Belgium, and we have already made a lot of progress in preparing our upcoming projects in Israel and Palestine.

Immediately the day after arriving from Israel and Palestine, I went to Lille (F) and had a meeting with luthiers from the north of France who are interested to join as volunteers to restore and repair the music instruments of Music Fund. That day, we also participated in a press conference which the Opéra de Lille organised to welcome the return of the four girls who had been spending four months teaching in Nazareth and in Nablus. At this press conference the large collecting campaign was announced which a number of organisations in Lille are preparing for the coming weeks (see the website of Music Fund). Our next workvisit to the region will be from 27th December 2006 to 7th January 2007 with musicians (François Deppe and others to be determined) and from 1 to 7th January 2007 with luthiers (instrument-builders).

The musicians of Ictus and other ensembles will especially go to work in Nazareth, where the Barenboim-Said Foundation will be organising its music workshop for young musicians from Nazareth, but also from the Westbank (Ramallah, Bethlehem and Jerusalem). And in the beginning of this period we will also spend a few days to give workshops in Nablus at Nablus the Culture and in Tel Aviv at the Tel Aviv University.

The luthiers of Music Fund will again present an introductory workshop into repairing and tuning of pianos and string instruments, again presented in a close collaboration with the wonderful music school Al Kamandjati in Ramallah.
